Essential oils generally do not turn bad/spoil (exception of citrus oils); they however do lose their therapeutic properties and their aroma isn't as fresh/strong as before. Carrier oils, on the other hand, do turn rancid when they are old. Most prominent signs of carrier oils turning rancid would be their "plasticky" smell and their original colours also become lighter.

When oils are stored well under inert gas, in the refrigerator and away from light, they will remain relatively fresh even though they are past their recommended best-before date. We store our oils under these excellent storage conditions and these discounted oils are still at least of 70% quality, or excess in stocks. We do not sell unsatisfactory oils.
