Frankincense CO2 vs EO
The two different extraction processes result in oils with different aroma, colour, and consistency. The aroma of Frankincense CO2 is a lot stronger and deeper than its essential oil. Most importantly, Frankincense ethereal/essential oil does not contain Boswellic acids as the process of steam distillation is unable to extract this heavier molecular compounds. Only via supercritical CO2 extraction is able to extract this precious unique active phyto-compound of Boswellia Serrata.

What is CO2 extract?
CO2 extracted oils are high quality oils extracted using carbon dioxide in liquid form, as the solvent for lipophilic plant ingredients. There are not any waste streams and emissions involved in this eco-friendly technology. When carbon dioxide is converted to liquid by using low temperatures and high pressure, it becomes a safe and effective solvent that allows all the desirable active constituents of the botanical to be collected without the risk of heat, light and air (oxygen) degradation. Once the extraction is complete, the carbon dioxide is allowed to return to its natural gaseous state, leaving behind only the extracted essence of the plant. CO2 extracted oils are the closest representation of the natural plant ever achieved. Highly concentrated and more complete than essential oils, these CO2 extracts can be used at low amount in carrier oils and other base products.
Boswellia serrata
Frankincense resin has been considered throughout the ages to have a wealth of skin and health supporting properties.
The active principle of a gum resin from Boswellia Serrata, also known as β-Boswellic acid, has recently gained attention as a chemopreventive compound due to its ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Boswellic acids make up between 30% - 60% of the resin portion of Frankincense. Boswellic acids have been shown to possess protective and therapeutic effects against multiple cancers including brain, blood, liver, pancreas, breast, prostate, colon and skin cancer cells.
Studies have also shown that Boswellic acids may have potential both for cancer prevention, and as adjuvants for cancer therapy. Boswellia Serrata extracts also promotes pain control and dampen inflammation in osteoarthritis and colitis, and help to control the brain edema associated with radiotherapy of cerebral tumors, and have become increasingly popular for the treatment of various diseases such as arthritis, inflammation, asthma and hypolipidemia etc.
Frankincense is a resin and oil that has been used for centuries for meditation and spiritual practices. It is used as an incense in India, China and then introduced to the West by the Churches. According to historical records, the Bible was likely referring to the Boswellia Serrata variety of Frankincense, as one of the gifts presented to infant Christ, along with Gold and Myrrh.
This species of Frankincense is widely used in Ayurvedic medicine, a traditional form of herbal medicine native to India, for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and other inflammatory, respiratory, and liver disorders.
Anti-ageing + natural SPF skincare oil
- Add 2 drops of Frankincense CO2, 3 drops of Myrrh CO2 and 5 drops of Carrot seed CO2 to 30ml of Raspberry seed oil
- Shake well and keep away from heat and sunlight.
- Use day and night, applying 1 -2 drops on face and neck.
For cancerous and tumour growth areas
- Add 10 drops of Frankincense CO2, 5 drops of Turmeric CO2, 5 drops of Parsley CO2 to 30ml Pomegranate seed CO2 or Black Cumin (black seed) CO2 extract.
- Shake well and keep away from heat and sunlight.
- Apply onto affected areas consistently 2 - 3 times a day.

ROBINS RESINS PLUS has stated that Boswellia serrata essential oil and CO2 extract may have a problem with those on blood thinning medication and those who have blood or heart problems. This effect may be due to presence of Estragole, also known as Methylchavicol, in the oil. According to Essential oil Safety second edition Robert Tissurand/Rodney Young, p 553, "Estragole have an in vitro antiplatelet effect. This effect is compared to diluted aspirin solution".
