The seeds are used medicinally for kidney and bladder problems, menstrual difficulties, fluid retention, digestive ailments, arthritis, rheumatism, rickets and sciatica.

The 2 dominant unique constituents of Parsley Seed extract are myristicin and apiol. Myristicin is a kind of phenolic compound which exhibits a wide range of biological effects as a consequence of their antioxidant properties. Several types of phenolic compounds have displayed anti-carcinogenic and anti-mutagenic effects, and myristicin was reported with anti-carcinogenic effect and also an effective cancer chemopreventive agent. Apiol has a very similar structure with myristicin but its antioxidant activities are significantly higher than myristicin.

Herbal Folk Tradition
Parsley is native to the Mediterranean area and Africa. Female peasants in the Mediterranean area used parsley leaves to relieve breast soreness and curtail lactation of nursing mothers.

Parsley represented honour to the ancient Greeks, and was worn as a head wreath. Theophrastus, the father of botany, claimed parsley benefited the heart. Galen, the Greek physician, prescribed parsley for water retention and sleeping sickness.

In ancient Greece, the herb was used as a bathing herb so as to commune with the Divine Mother aspect of Nature. It was also thought to make horses run quicker!
