Organic refined African shea butter
Updates: Note that this is a refined version and not my usual unrefined shea butter. Colour is much lighter, smell is less nutty, but overall it is still a good affordable butter to help with eczema healing and moisturising big areas of dry skin. This is a limited run on refined shea, once sold out, its finished. FYI, I am still on a lookout for unrefined shea.
Botanical name: Butyrospermum parkii
Ingredient: Butyrospermum parkii kernel butter
Origin: Ghana, Africa
Skincare: Versatile product that can be used for face, body and hair. It is a moisturiser which helps protect the skin barrier against environmental pollutants, and it also protects against UV damage from sun and light sources. Shea butter is recommended for wounded skin, cracked and chapped skin, dry skin and eczema. It is best use on its own, or over hydrosol/aloe vera + moisturising oil - this helps to prevent epidermis water loss and retain hydration effectively. Safe for all including babies, infants, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
Haircare: A great product for dry and frizzy hair types.
Scent: Scentless, neutral.
Texture: Textured, buttery, melts into an oil upon contact with skin.
Precaution: Shea derives from the nut of a tree that is closely related to the rubber tree. And rubber tree yields latex, which is a common allergen. If you have a latex allergy, you're likely to become allergic to shea.
It is important to note that latex sensitization (a similar condition to latex allergy) worsens with cumulative exposures to latex and chemically similar products. Individuals who become severely sensitized can progress beyond contact dermatitis, developing many food allergies and even suffering anaphylactic shock upon exposure.
